Version 0.45

Another fairly big update. There's probably another one coming fairly soon.

This version includes the following changes:

  • Added contraptions as something extra for Labourers to do. They're small inventions which take a while to build and may break before or after use, depending on how skilful the labourer is.
  • Plate armour's Armour bonus has been reduced to +3 and brigandine has been removed as a default option (and is now an alternative flavouring of Mail armour). This seems somewhat obvious in hindsight, since +3 has always been the general maximum bonus and the jump from +2 to +3 for Armour now mirrors that jump for professions in terms of attainability. This change became especially pertinent with the recent changes to creature design which reduced their overall damage.
  • Added Ulow, a clay-like dwarf, as a new possible biology. This has bumped Octs to the optional rules section, since they were always a somewhat odd option.
  • The rules for using treasure to increase wealth have changed. Now, instead of a single treasure increasing the wealth of up to four characters, it only increases a single character's wealth. However, once one party member has reached a certain wealth level, it becomes easier for the other party members to reach that level. The original design was meant to make it so there's not a single party member buying everything for the others while they remain in poverty. I hope the new version doesn't feel as gamey without messing with incentives too much.
  • Added guidelines for creating and using factions to the GM Resources section. I've also incorporated those in the encounter tables of the various terrain types.
  • Added some short settlement exploration rules. These are a preview of the upcoming dungeon exploration rules.

Coming in the new update, hopefully:

  • Dungeon rules, similar to how the settlement exploration rules work now.
  • A ruins generator to help with exploration during travel (still).
  • Rules for magical corruption/disease/vampirism (still).
